MAY 2021
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, usa
Day one, we flew to San Francisco in the early afternnon, and drove straight to our hotel, The Donatello. We walked to Lombard Street, the windy 90 degree turn street! We had lunch in Chinatown and later got groceries as we walked steep streets. We had dinner at the San Francisco Brewing Co near Fisherman’s Wharf! A must if you love craft beer!
We taught oursleves the metro bus routes and made it to the San Francisco Zoo. After seeing the animals that were very active in the cold spring weather we made our way to the botanical garden. They had flora and fauna from all over the world and created landscapes based on their locations! We wandered down all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge, we walked the park grounds and saw a heard of surfers catching waves underneath the bridge!
We walked to the Painted Ladies, (think the opening scene to Full House!) from our hotel and got distracted by the local dog park, there were so many good doggos! We traveled through so many markets and shops with corny knick knacks that we had to buy! The Marina District was one of my favorite stops, there was a farmers market in a large historic building on the water that had the cutest little artisan shops.
We took the metro out to Ocean Beach, I now have been to bothe the East and the West Coasts of the United States. We walked along the beach for about a mile collecting seashells and running with the random dogs we met.
We ended the way you should when visting San Francisco, by going to Alcatraz Island! We picked a great day to go, it was completeley foggy and dark out, iwth the wind ripping past us in the bay. It was so cold and misty you could barely see the city skyline from the island. I think the most interesting thing about the Island is they left it the way it was after the Native American occupation of Alcatraz in 1969.
We headed out the next morning back to DTW. We had a lovely time in San Fran and I would love to go back to take the trolleys! (they were shut down due to COVID-19)
